Shading. Now that you have had practice shading a value scale and your op art tubes try this exercise. Draw an altered triangle and overlap it 4 times. Use gradient shading (smooth blending from light to dark). Each time you come to a border (an overlap from another triangle), change the direction of your gradient shading or values. You may use colored pencils or graphite.

Op art tubes. Students, this is an opportunity for you to brush up on your shading techniques in colored pencil.
Choose a color scheme and then blend in white to tint, and black or the complimentary color to shade. Layer and blend your colors until they are opaque. Forgot your art vocabulary? See the definitions below.

Tint- to add white
Shade- to add black
Opaque- solid
Color Schemes- a combination of colors arranged by their relationship to one another on the color wheel. Example: complimentary, triadic, analogous, and split-complimentary.
