LHS Course Descriptions:
Art Foundations
​
This is an entry level art course that will introduce the elements and principles of art through a variety of projects and media. Through assignments and projects, students also develop their creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration skills. Participating in all activities including critiques, care and maintenance of the studio and art materials is required.
ART FOUNDATIONS (A) Semester Grades 10-12
Note: $25.00 fee
Painting 1
Students develop, create and refine original art work with watercolor and acrylic paint; prepare their work for presentation; and critique and interpret their own work and the work of others. This class covers sketching, composition, color theory, color mixing, brush techniques, and the principles of design. Self reflection and observation are an important part of this process. Students will paint what they draw. Participating in all activities including critiques, care and maintenance of the studio, brushes, and paint is required.
PAINTING (A) (FC) Semester Grades 10-12
Recommended: Drawing 1 before Painting 1
Note: $25.00 fee
Painting II
This class builds upon the concepts learned in Painting 1 while expanding student's ability to make meaningful connections. Students use their own references and those from contemporary and historical artists to understand and create original paintings. Students will paint what they draw while experimenting with alternative painting methods. Participating in all activities including critiques, care and maintenance of the studio, brushes, and paint is required.
